About Nandan Kanan Zoological Park
Nandan Kanan Zoological Park, Bhubaneswar is a premier zoo of Orissa, India. It also contains a botanical garden and part of it has been declared a sanctuary. Nandan Kanan, literally meaning 'The Garden of Heavens',[3].Nandankanan Zoological Park has become a member of the World Association of Zoos and Aquariums (WAZA). It is the first zoo in India to acquire this distinction.[4] Having more than 240 zoos and aquaria as its members, WAZA works as a catalyst for joint conservation. WAZA membership would provide leadership and support for zoos, aquaria. Located a short distance from the heart of the capital city, Bhubaneswar, the Nandan Kanan zoo lies in the splendid environs of the Chandaka forest, along the rippling waters of the Kanjia Lake. The zoo was established in 1960 and declared open as a sanctuary and zoo in 1979
